Rooftop Bag Carrier for 2017 Toyota Prius V That Installs Without A Roof Rack

Question:

We have an old Karrite Voyager cartop carrier. I understand they have been assimilated by Thule. When we got our Honda Odyssey years ago, we had to replace the black clips on the straps with orange clips to fit the new car. Im trying to find out if there are clips available for this unit that will fit our new car, a Prius V, We neither have nor want a roof rack on the car. Are there any car top carriers today that mount with the straps like our old one, instead of requiring the installation of a roof rack? Thanks!

There is a type of car rooftop carrier that can mount on a bare roof and NOT require you to purchase and install a roof rack. This type of product, a roof bag, is shown on the linked page. Hard cargo box type carriers like # CTC-18S and metal basket carriers like # TH859XT that we offer do require a roof rack for installation.

Among my favorite such items is the 18-cubic-foot Rightline Sport 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S30. This bag features waterproof material, shielded zippers and double-sealed seams to protect your belongings while you're traveling. We recommend using a protective non-skid pad such as # RL100650 to both protect your paint from scratches and to help hold the bag securely in position.

Another option is to install a light-duty Class I hitch # 24847 on the Prius V and to then use a compatible Class I hitch-mount tray-style cargo carrier such as # C18145 or # C18110. This setup gives you the highest possible weight-carrying capacity for the car. These tray carriers can be used along with cargo bags if desired.
