Recommendation to Connect 4-Way Flat to 7-Way on Pop Up Camper
Question:
I have a 7 blade adapter on a small pop up camper trailer and I need to connect to a 4 flat on my 2017 highlander. The 7 blade adapter had different gauge wires while the 4 flat are all the same. In addition to that problem, what do I do with the black wire used for 12v power since the 4 flat has no place for it? Trailer does not have electric brakes....I was planning on cutting off the 7 blade adapter and splicing on a new 4 flat adapter to the trailer.

I have a perfect solution for you!
In order to connect the 4-Way flat connector on your Toyota Highlander to the 7-Way on your trailer, I recommend using the Hopkins Adapter # 37185. This will plug right into the 4-Way on the Highlander and provide a 7-Way on the other end that will connect to the trailer. If you need the 12V circuit to be active on the 7-Way, you will need to run the black (hot lead) wire up to the vehicle battery's positive terminal through a 40-amp breaker like # PK54540. For additional 10 gauge wiring you can use # 10-1-1, which is sold by the foot.
The additional wires coming out of the adapter are white for ground, blue for brake output, and purple for auxiliary. You can simply tie off both the blue and purple wire for your trailer as these won't be needed since it is not equipped with electric brakes.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this adpater that you can also check out.
