Compatibility of Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack on 2007 Toyota Prius

Question:

Thule EasyFold 2 Bike TH9032, not the 2018 model. How will it work on a 2007 Prius? One local hitch installer was a bit skeptical because of the weight 2 bikes, 50 pounds each, with batteries removed and the distance out from the car, which effectively adds weight the teeter totter effect. He was mostly concerned about our rack hitting the road surface in some circumstances such as steep garage entrances. We live where there are ferries to ride, so when the tide is out, there is a steep ramp before you are on the ferry. Any ideas? We could just watch the tides and plan our trips, but what a hassle.

The Thule EasyFold XT Bike Platform Rack # TH903202 is rated to fit with the Class I hitch on your 2007 Toyota Prius. The carrier weighs 45 lbs and is rated for bikes up to 65 lbs each. All of that still keeps you under the 200 lb tongue weight maximum of a Class I hitch.

The overall dimensions are 48-3/4" long x 27-3/16" wide x 31-1/2" tall. Even though you have a low hitch, the rise in the shank on this carrier will help you with the steep ramp or garage entrances.

I can understand your hitch installer's skepticism when most bike racks don't have the stability and strength of this carrier. Class I hitches are rated for only two bikes and most bike carriers are rated for a max bike weight of 35 lbs each. Thule has tested this bike rack thoroughly and it is a great rack for your application.
