Base Plate Kit Needed to Flat Tow a 2002 Jeep Liberty with a Curt Tow Bar

Question:

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4x4 Limited Edition that I would like to tow behind my motorhome. A relative has offered to give me a Curt T-745 universal tow bar, which is a ball hitch tow bar. It has a 5,000 lb towing capacity, which is sufficient for my vehicle. Is there a compatible base plate and wiring harness for this set-up, as well as any quick disconnect attachments I would need? Also, I have a brake assist system I can use. Would I also need anti-sway bars for this application? Thank you!

To use a Curt tow bar, like part # C19745 to flat tow your 2002 Jeep Liberty you will need to install the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1119 and then use the Adapter Kit # BX8833. The Blue Ox base plate kit has removable arms that help gives your Jeep an OEM look when you aren't flat towing.

If you will be doing a lot of towns then I recommending using the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 if your motorhome has a 7-Way or the Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 if your motorhome has a 4-Way. If you only tow every once in awhile then you you may want to go with Magnetic Lights # TL21RK instead.

Aside from this equipment and your braking system you also need some safety cables like the Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643. It would also be beneficial to ensure that the Curt tow bar is within the proper 3" operating range. Attached is a article showing how to choose a high-low adapter. For your situation you would need a hitch ball with the correct rise or drop.

Be sure to reference your owner's manual for any specific instructions on flat towing as well.
