Thule Roof Rack Option for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude

Question:

I have a grand Cherokee with the altitude trim package and the non functional roof racks which are just a moulding. However, they are mounted fairly substantially to the roof with bolt fittings. Can I replace these with TP54 rails, recognizing I may need to do some drilling of the rails to match up with the bolt holes in the roof.

For a brand new vehicle like your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee I'd be very reluctant to recommend permanently modifying the roof to install the Thule Roof Top Track System part # THTP54. It's not impossible what you are wanting to do but it might be more work than you'd expect and would possibly void the warranty on your new vehicle.

I'd much rather see you go with a fit that won't modify the roof like the Thule Aeroblade roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRCL4, and # RRRCP27-BK which would be a great option. This clamps around the door frame and would not permanently modify anything or potentially cause leaks.
