Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring For 2018 Ford Explorer Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2018 Ford Explorer without factory tow package. If I install this blade wiring hit, which plugs into the Ford electrical system with the T connector, do I buy a brake controller that plugs in under the dash just like I had a tow package?

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # C56306 is a direct fit into your factory wiring on your 2018 Ford Explorer without factory tow package. It does not however give you the ability to mount a brake controller under the dash of your vehicle with a simple wiring harness. You would need to splice in the wiring kit # 5506 and add a brake controller with that hardwiring.
Your other option is to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540 and then use the wiring kit # ETBC7. This includes all the connectors, circuit breakers, and wiring needed.
For your brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This brake controller is easy to use with its LCD screen and preset brake boost options. It is a customer favorite and will help your trailer to brake at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your Explorer.
