If you are looking at the face of the connector on the Pollak Replacement 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket, # PK11893-11933, where you would connect the trailer, the pin located in the 7 o'clock position is the ground. I have also included a link to our wiring FAQ that should be a big help in determining the functions of the 7-Way. You may also need a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to find the functions of the wiring on the vehicle behind the connector.

It does sound like a bad ground or intermittent power issue. On the 7-Way the 12-volt power is the pin in the 1 o'clock position. If there is any dirt or corrosion in the vehicle or trailer side connectors, that can cause the issue you are having. Corrosion can also build up behind the plugs.

On the trailer, you can check that the main ground from the connector is attached to a clean metal surface on the frame. You can also check for nicks, cuts, or breaks in the wiring on both sides.
