Do Trailer Lights Sometimes Ground Through Mounting Hardware

Question:

Hello, I am looking for brake/turn/running lights for my Fleetwood E2 trailer. I have yet to take them out because the are riveted into the body. Are there lights that use the Rivets as the ground, they started working when i Bent the flange to the touch the rivit more securely. If so Is there an easy way to convert over. Or what replacement would you recommend.

There are quite a few trailer light assemblies that use the mounting bracket as the ground. This works because the mounting brackets typically get attached to metal surfaces that touch the trailer frame which is where the ground strap of the trailer wiring harness connects. You can run a jumper wire from the mounting hardware to the main ground wire of the trailer if you wanted to as well.
