Best 5th Wheel Hitch for a 250 Series Pickup with OEM Pucks

Question:

Thank you for the quick response. Here is the additional info needed. Both the Ford F250 and Ram 2500 would have the OEM 5th wheel prep package and would be a 2018. The Arctic Wolf 5th wheel comes with a 'Turning Point' pin box. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I think either one could very well be a viable option. I would love to help you with the best 5th wheel hitch for both options but I would need to know the year of the pickup as well as if it has a puck system or not. Please be sure to look at the weight capacity of both vehicles and compare them to the weight of your Arctic Wolf to essure they can tow it properly.

With a short bed you can either use a sliding 5th wheel hitch or a Sidewinder pin box which will keep you from having to use a sliding 5th wheel. Let me know the year of your pickups and I can make some recommendations.

The best 5th wheel hitch to use for either a 2018 Ford F-250 or a 2018 Ram 2500 is the B&W Companion. This is made to install directly into the puck system on either vehicle and is easily removed for if you need full access to your truck bed. Most 5th wheel hitches are pretty hefty but the great thing about the Companion is that the head is easily removed which makes putting it in and taking it out of your pickup easier. The head itself weighs just over 70 lbs so it actually will make quite a difference. If you go with the F-250 then the Companion is available in a 20K # BWRVK3300 version as well as a 25K # BWRVK3305 version. For the 2500 we currently just have the 25K version # BWRVK3600. Since the GVWR of your Arctic Wolf 285DRL4 is about 10,000 lbs it won't be putting a strain on any of these hitches which means they will last longer (when taken care of properly). I checked with my contact at Lippert who said that the Turning Point pin box is compatible with the Companion. You just need to orient the universal wedge so that the shorter end if facing the front of the pin box. Attached are some review videos of the Companion that you can reference.
