Recommendation for Carrying Bikes While Towing a Trailer at the Same Time

Question:

I have a tandem axel camper trailer I think it isabout 5500 pounds. I current use a weight distributing hitch for it. Can I use this dual reciever for the trailer and a bike rack? Thank you!

The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, # RM-077-2, is for tow bar use only and cannot be used with any type of trailer. But there may be another option.

You may be able to use a towing bike rack, like # C18013, depending on how many bikes you wish to carry. I have included a link to our towing bike tracks for you to view. Please note that the weight of the rack plus the weight of the bikes will count against the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch.

Another option is to install a hitch on the back of the trailer and then use a bike rack in it. Not all bike racks are rated for use behind a trailer so I have included a link to the ones we carry that can be used behind a trailer.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend going with a frame mounted hitch for the most stability. The most versatile one we carry is the CURT Hitch, # 13703. It fits Box, C-Channel, and I-Beam frames 22 to 72 inches wide. It can be welded or bolted on. Welding should be done by a qualified professional. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

With this hitch CURT requires the use of a strap with a bike rack or cargo carrier. You can use Strap, # 18050.
