How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2017 Thor Motor Coach Vegas Motorhome

Question:

I just read Mikes reply to a question on installing a brake controller in a 2016 Thor Vegas. Can I assume the process is the same for the 2017 model? or is that dangerous?

The process to install a brake controller on a 2016 Thor Motor Coach Vegas Motorhome will be the same as the process to install a brake controller on a 2017 Thor Motor Coach Vegas Motorhome assuming they both have the same trailer connector installed from the factory.

For a brake controller, I recommend using either the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 or the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195. The P2 and P3 are our two top selling brake controllers due to their integrated safeguards and built-in diagnostic checks. The main difference between the two is that the P3 has a nicer display with larger easy to use buttons.

If you have the factory 7-way trailer connector then all you will need to install a brake controller is an adapter like the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3034-P. If you have a 4-way trailer connector installed from the factory then you can still use the adapter but you will also need to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. Finally, if you do not have a factory trailer connector then you will not have the port for the adapter and you will need to use both the 4 Pole Trailer Connector part # C59496 and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7.

If you take a look at the attached install video, you can see the location of the vehicle's brake controller harness. I have also attached a selection of the brake controllers we have that will work for your Thor Vegas should you decide against the P2 or P3.
