Expert Reply:
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016, which is designed for the 2014-2018 GMC Sierra, can indeed be used to install your Tekonsha brake controller on your 2016 GMC Canyon by simply cutting off the truck side connector. After cutting off the connector, you will just need to connect the wires to the wiring that is already present under the dash of the Canyon.
The blue wire is for brake output, the black wire is for 12V power, the red wire is for the brake stop light switch, and the white wire is for ground. The wires under the dash of your Canyon should have labels indicating each of their functions.
