Recommended Over-Under Kit to Flip Axle on Trailer for More Ground Clearance

Question:

My camper seems to be very low to the ground. Is there something I can do to lift it for more ground clearance? It is a homemade camper on a 14foot single axle trailer with 13inch wheels.

Expert Reply:

To give your camper more ground clearance at the frame you can use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch diameter axles or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch diameter axles to "flip the axle". This means moving the leaf springs from under the axle to sit above the axle. This requires moving spring seats to the top and also using longer U-bolts. These kits will give you the difference in height of your axle diameter and the height of your leaf spring stack.
