Can CURT Aluminum Cargo Carrier be Used with a Hitch Extended on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

Do you have a bar extentions for my Toyota tacoma 2 reciever when the tailgate is down with a camper ,for the aluminum Curt flat deck. aprox total distance from cotter pin to clear the tailgate is 15 which extender should I buy?

First, I need to tell you that the use of a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. It looks like the hitches for a 2010 Toyota Tacoma have a 500 pound tongue weight capacity. With a hitch extender that capacity will be reduced to 250 pounds.

If this is acceptable then will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the basket, which should be about 8 inches, on the carrier. You could then use # e88YR. If you need a longer extension, use # HE12. But please keep in mind the reduced capacity of 250 pounds. The weight of the carrier will also count against tongue weight.
