Is Weight Distribution Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2018 Subaru Forester
Question:
I have a 2018 Subaru Forester rated to pull 1500 lb trailer. Im looking at the Drawtite Receiver plus wiring harness - but do I need something to stabilize the load as well?

Generally speaking weight distribution should be used if the gross trailer weight is at least 50 percent of the gross vehicle weight. Your 2018 Subaru Forester has a curb weight of 3,300 pounds to 3,700 pounds so a trailer weighing 1,500 pounds is less than 50 percent of that weight range.
If you go with Draw-Tite hitch # 75876 then it is rated for weight distribution but you are still limited to the capacity of the vehicle. The Fastway system # FA92-00-0450 will be sufficient for such a light trailer and it comes with built-in sway control which will help to keep the trailer in line behind the vehicle.
For a compatible 2 inch ball for this system use # 40038. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # C40007.
