Recommendations to Add 7-Way and Trailer Brake Controller to 2018 Toyota Highlander

If there is not already a 4-Way connector installed at the rear of your 2018 Toyota Highlander, you will need to start with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56042. This custom harness will plug right into the factory port located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in the rear cargo area of your Highlander. This is a simple "plug-and-play" installation.

I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.

Then, with the 4-Way installed (or if one was already present), you will need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to install both a fully-functional 7-Way from the existing 4-Way and a trailer brake controller. I have attached a great article that details the installation steps for this kit that you might find helpful.

You will then just need the trailer brake controller itself. For this, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Highlander. It features a customizable LCD display, storable settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues.
