Does Trailer Side Connector Fit Securely in Hopkins 4- and 7-Way Connector # HM40975
Question:
I have a 2016 f150 with tow package. My trailer disconnected warning keeps coming on and I think its because the plug from my rv is pretty loose and wiggles around some in it. I have read on forums that this is a common problem with this ford. Users recommended replacing it with an aftermarket one. Does this have a tight connection compared to the factory f150 connectors?

It is possible that Hopkins actually makes the connector on your 2016 Ford F-150. Hopkins also makes # HM40975. Although I have not heard of anyone having trouble with a connector fitting too loose in # HM40975 and it has been reviewed over 1,000 times. It is possible that the issue is more with the trailer side connector. It would be worth trying that first since a trailer side 7-Way such as # PK12706 costs less than a vehicle side 4- and 7-Way.
Also make sure that the trailer side connector is fully inserted in the truck's receptacle. If you are able to pull it out by hand then it was not inserted all the way. You will know when it is inserted all the way because the lid on the vehicle side 7-Way will prevent the trailer connector from coming out.
