Recommended Trailer Hitch for Transporting a Scooter with a 2018 Subaru Forester
Question:
Hi, I am leasing a 2018 Subaru Forester and I would like to add a Silver Spring SC400-V2 Hitch Power Scooter Wheelchair rack. Can you tell me which Trailer Hitch is the correct one to purchase. Thank you.

We do have some trailer hitches available for your 2018 Subaru Forester which you can see on the linked page.
Out of the options that we have I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75876 which is a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver. This will give you the max amount of weight capacity and allow you to use a wide variety of accessories. It has a max Tongue Weight (TW) rating of 525 lbs but when I looked up your owner's manual online it says on page 8-17 that your Forester has a max TW capacity of 200 lbs which makes that your limiting factor.
When I looked up the Silver Spring SC400-V2 Hitch Power Scooter Wheelchair Rack that you referenced I noticed that the unit itself weighs 71 lbs. This means that the most your scooter can weigh is 129 lbs. If it weighs more than that then you need to use a small trailer to transport the scooter.
If you need to go with a trailer then you also need some wiring, part # 118467, and a ball mount kit like part # C45036. I have linked a helpful article on ball mounts so that you can make sure the ball mount kit is correct for your application.
I have also linked installation videos of the trailer hitch and wiring kit for you to check out.
