Recommended Weight Distribution System For Torklift SuperTruss Extension
Question:
I have used the calculation of 1/3 of cargo weight to find tongue weight before my truck even sees a trailer coupled to it. Wha tI mean is, 7200 lbs over my rear axle right now with camper loaded. So 1/3 of that being 2400 lbs. Now add the 2400 lbs to my tongue weight of 1k and I get 3400 lbs. Thats my tongue weight, from what I understand. So help me figure out the load rating for the WD set up I need. Using 36inch super truss extension to clear my camper now, and a 10k car hauler trailer with the stated 1k tongue weight. Trailer weighs 2k empty. Loaded truck total weighs 12,500. Front axle is 5250 and rear is 7250 lbs, these weights are BEFORE any trailer tongue weight has been added. Hope this helps. Hope you can help.

With a camper on your truck it is difficult to accurately measure your trailer total tongue weight because the cargo weight behind the rear axle is actually spread over the frame and not directly behind the rear axle. So what we do is level with suspension enhancement if needed prior to adding the truss and weight distribution system. Then we base the weight distribution system off the capacity of the extension.
Based on your trailer information, with a loaded tongue weight of 1000 lbs, you will want to use the maximum system rated for your SuperTruss # TLE1536 which is 1200 lbs. For that, I recommend my personal favorite the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control # RP66084. This system actively fights sway because of the hot rolled spring bars and dual cam design.
With a weight distribution system you will either want # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball.

Jason, I have a 3500HD Duramax Dually with 3500-4000 lb truck camper. Measurement from truck bumper to back of camper is 37". I have the Torklift Super hitch Magnum and the Torklift SuperTruss 36". Couple of questions. Do you recommend the RP66084 over a BXW1500? Any other Equalizing Hitch suggestions? With measurement from the truck bumper to the back of the camper at 37", could I use a 32" Supertruss rather than 36" given that most equalizing hitch shank lengths are approx 12"? Appreciate your input on this. Thanks, Chris
