Recommended Roof Mounted Spare Tire Carrier for 2010 Toyota RAV4 Sport
Question:
2010 Toyota RAV4 sport Spare Tire. I want to put a full sized spare tire on my roof. Any suggestions on how to chose between a basket or covered thule like carrier? I want to have it covered. My Rav4 came with run flats and no spare. I made the dealership give me a spare tire, So I haul it around tied down in the back. I want to use this space for over night camping/sleeping. Bad design on Toyotas part. Run flats are rough and expensive. Thanks in advance

For your 2010 Toyota RAV4 Sport, if you have the factory side rails, then I recommend the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG215. This will give you the crossbars needed for a roof basket mount.
For your roof basket, I recommend the Yakima LoadWarrior Roof Rack Cargo Basket # Y07070 along with the Spare Tire Carrier for Yakima Roof Rack Cargo Baskets # Y07076.
You're factory tire size is 235/55R18, so the overall diameter is 28.2 inches. For that diameter, I recommend the Rampage Spare Tire Cover # RA772901 to protect your tire from UV rays and premature deterioration.
