Recommendation For A Trailer Hitch For 2007 Toyota RAV4 To Carry Mobility Scooter
Question:
I am looking for a trailer hitch for my 2007 Toyota Rav4 - going to be towing/carrying a mobility scooter. What hitch do you recommend? What is the difference between class I and class III hitches?

The different classification of hitches refers to weight capacity and size of receiver opening. A Class I hitch is the smallest hitch available and it has a lighter capacity, smaller receiver opening, and works with small to mid-sized vehicles. A Class I hitch is more limited in capacity than a Class III hitch so it is best to get a Class III hitch if available.
For your 2007 Toyota RAV4, I recommend the etrailer Class III Receiver Hitch, Item # e98864. The etrailer hitch has a 2 inch hitch opening, a 3,500 lb total weight capacity, and a 525 lb tongue weight capacity. It has an easy, bolt-on installation and all the hardware is included. You will also need a tow starter kit and I recommend the Etrailer Ball Mount Kit, Item # 989891, which includes: Ball mount, 2 hitch balls (1-7/8 inch and 2 inch), pin and clip, and storage bag.
For a cargo carrier to carry your scooter, I recommend the Flint Hill Goods Hitch Mounted Carrier, Item # FHG77ZR. This carrier measures 30 by 50 inches with a 48-inch ramp. The weight capacity is 500 lbs.
If you want to pull a trailer, you will need a wiring harness and I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, Item # 118412, which is a confirmed fit for your RAV4.
Make sure to check your RAV4 owner's manual or with a local Toyota dealer for instructions, limitations, and recommendations for towing/carrying a cargo carrier.
I have attached some articles and videos to assist you.
