How to Add a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 with Factory 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
How an 09 Dodge ram 2500 without factory tow package. have a flat 4 wire plug in already wired in. Can I use the 37185 to plug in to the 4 flat I have with any problems and will this allow both the 4 flat and the 7 blade connectors to work? Thanks.

If the trailer has brakes then you are going to want to use the Installation Kit part # ETBC7 on your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500. If the trailer dose not have brake then yes you can just use the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185. The adapter is actually the same one included in the above kit but you also receive the additional wires and circuit breakers needed to tow a trailer with brakes.
If you also need a brake controller, I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter part # 3020-P. This is one of our best selling brake controllers due to it's easy to read display and integrated safeguards.
Please note that the brake (blue) wire does not run all the way back to the 4-pole at the rear; it stops at the connector that is located under the driver's side wheel well. In order to finalize the installation you must splice into this wire and continue it back to the plug. I have attached sample install videos in addition to a help article that outlines the brake controller install process on your truck.
