It sounds like your truck has a 4-way trailer connector already so you can convert it to a 7-way using our # ETBC7 kit. This kit includes the 7-way connecto and all the wiring you need. I've linked a video of the install on a 2001 Ram which will be the same process as on your 2006 since it's a universal install.
If you'd like to add a 7-way to the bed of your truck you can then use part # 20027 after you have a 7-way at the bumper. It plugs into the connector at the bumper and makes it easier to connect a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer.
If you don't already have a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, because of how reliable and easy to use it is. If your 4-way connector is factory installed then you have a connector under your dash to plug in part # 3020-P to install the controller.
