Recommended Over-Under Kit for 3 Inch Diameter Axles to Raise Trailer Height

Question:

Thanks Jason, I was hoping you could see by the picture I sent that the axles are already under the springs. Unfortunately I have brand new tires, any particular reason you don't recommend a spacer or do you think I should not worry about it. one or two inches fine, but I thought four was a bit much. Thanks.

For your Keystone Cougar 27RKS with 3 inch Tandem Axles, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 for each axle. This will increase the height of your trailer by the axle diameter as well as the spring stack. Depending on your leaf spring stack height, you most likely will get the 4 inches you desire.

This will change the ride of your trailer slightly making it slightly more top heavy, however I don't recommend using a wheel spacer on your tires to increase the width. If you want to use slightly wider tires and have the clearance needed, let me know, but using a spacer on your wheels is not a good idea as it adds extra torque to your hub bolts.

Sorry that the picture didn't come through. For your brand new tires and needing to raise your trailer a couple inches, I recommend either upgrading the hangers welded to your frame for greater height or adding the Lippert Components Center Point by Trailair Air-Ride Suspension Upgrade - Tandem Axle # LC1565391 This will give you 2 inches of additional height as well as give you a smoother ride. I don't recommend using blocks at the axles for safety. This is not a good option for your trailer and could cause many other issues. The wheel spacers are also not recommended for trailers. Nearly all trailer wheels have a zero offset so the weight of the trailer is moved out to the hub studs where you will get less support and far more torque on the bolts. It will put more stress on the axle spindles, the hubs, the bolts and the lugs.
