There are a few possible reasons as to why the "N.C." remains displayed on your Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller # TK90160 when you have the trailer connected.
I first recommend checking both the vehicle side and trailer side connectors for any debris or corrosion that might be built up behind the pins. You will want to clean anything out as needed so as to allow for a secure connection between the trailer and vehicle.
If the connectors look good, the next possible cause is an open circuit on the brake line or a short to the brake circuit. A short can be caused by a number of things, including dirt/corrosion in the connectors or a damaged/frayed section of wiring. Check to make sure that all the wiring is in good condition from the brake controller and all the proper connections have been made.
If the above also checks out fine, then you will want to turn your attention to the trailer side, specifically with the brake magnets on the brake assemblies. Simply start by visually inspecting the magnets to see if you notice any windings coming through them that indicate the need for a replacement. I have attached a great FAQ that further explains how to test the magnets after your initial visual inspection.
If you still have issues with the controller after these steps, please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
