Question:
I have the above vehicle and im attempting to connect an existing 4 way to a 7 prong. I have part number 37185. My question is where do I connect the purple wire and the black wire to? I know the blue will be for the brake controller which I have and the white to the frame of the vehicle. Thanks for the help.

To install the Hopkins Adapter # 37185 to your 2016 Ford Expedition you need to connect the following wires to the following functions:
White - Ground
Blue - Brake
Black - 12V Power
Purple - Auxiliary
The Black wire needs to connect to your battery for power. The best solution to connect the Blue and Black wires to your Expedition is the Deka Jacketed 2 Wire # 10-2-1 which is sold by the foot. You then just need to connect these wires to existing wires that run along the rear frame rail. Using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 will help you identify the correct wires.
I have also attached a review video of the Installation Kit # ETBC7 being installed on a 2004 Expedition that shows this process being done.
The Purple wire is labeled as "auxiliary" because you can ultimately connect it to whatever you want. This wire is typically connected to the reverse light circuit of the tow vehicle so that the connected trailer can use the reverse light function as well.
I have attached some pictures for you to check out as well.
