A high boy is a generic term used to encompass all Ford F-250 4x4 trucks from the late 1960s to the late 1970s (circa 1967 to 1977 and a half). If your 1976 is an F-250 with 4 wheel drive, it falls under the high boy umbrella. F-100 and F-150 models are not considered high boys even though 4 wheel drive was an option for some.
The high boy trucks came with a different transfer case (what is called a divorced transfer case), the front cross member set up was different, and they sat higher than other models.
High boys also have 34 inch frames. So the hitches for the 1976 Ford F-series that state they fit 34 inch frames will fit your truck if it has a 34 inch frame, but I recommend measuring to be on the safe side. The CURT Trailer Hitch, # 14001, will fit F-series Ford trucks except for the F-250 Crew Cab and will NOT fit models with a 34 inch frame width.
This hitch can be sued with weight distribution. When using weight distribution, the gross trailer weight capacity is 12,000 pounds/ I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.
