Recommendation for Higher Capacity Under-Bed 5th Wheel Hitch System for 2008 Ford F-450

Question:

I have a 2008 Ford F450 long bed. It was purchsed with a Reese 5th wheel hitch installed. Under bed kit #RP30073 and Reese m5 20k hitch. My 5th wheel toy hauler is 15,500 curb. Actual weight is probably 17,500 to 18K. I have been running this for years without problems but know I’m pushing the hitch limits. It’s time to upgrade and I want to change from a kingpin box to the Reese 20K goose box. However, I don’t see many options to increase my capacity on the truck side. Recommendations? Thanks!

In order to increase the towing capacity on the truck side, you will need to completely replace the existing under-bed rail kit and hitch. Both the Reese M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30921 and the Rail Kit # RP30073 feature an 20,000 pound capacity, so there is no way to upgrade your current system so that it can safely tow a heavier trailer.

For another under-bed system that will give you a higher capacity, I recommend taking a look at the Demco Hijacker # DM8550032 along with the Underbed Rail and Installation Kit # DM8551000. This system is confirmed to fit your 2008 Ford F-450 and it will provide you with a 21,000 pound towing capacity. The hitch features a premium wraparound, single-piece jaw that will give you an excellent connection with the trailer and the polyurethane dampeners will help reduce any noise and reduce road shock.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this system that you can also check out.
