Determining Correct Ball Mount for 2007 Honda Odyssey to Tow Pop Up Camper
Question:
We are looking to purchase a trailer hitch and accessories for our 2007 Odyssey in order to pull a pop-up camper. We do not yet own the camper, so I am not certain of the height of the trailer coupler. From what we can tell, it looks as though we will need a ball mount with a rise. Do you have a recommendation as to whatan appropriate ion would be? Thanks!

The way to determine the correct amount of rise (or drop) needed to tow a trailer level there are a couple of measurements needed. First you would measure from the ground up to the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch. Then, with the trailer level, measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the trailer is higher the difference is the amount of rise you will need. And if the vehicle is higher the difference is the amount of drop you would need.
On the 2007 Honda Odyssey with Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75270 installed the distance from the ground to the top of the receiver opening is 12-3/4 inches. What you can do, since you do not yet have the camper, is to use an adjustable ball mount such as # TK5007 which has up to an 9 inch rise (adjustable in 2 inch increments). For a trailer wiring harness you can use # 118438 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the van.
For a ball that is compatible with this ball mount use # 40038 for a 2 inch ball or # C40007 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. Or you could use interchangeable ball set # 902B which comes with 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 2-5/16 inch balls.
