Best Trailer Brake Controller for a 2011 Volvo XC70

Hello, I require a 7 pole plug and brake controller installed on my Volvo XC70. I have a 4 pin already installed. I’m wondering what wiring and parts I require. Thanks a bunch.

The best brake controller that we have for your 2011 Volvo XC70 is the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # TK94FR. This controller operates off of radio frequencies and will not require any wire splicing. You may also need to use part # 20142 depending on the voltage output of your Volvo.

Then for a 4 to 7-way adapter I recommend using part # 37185. This will plug into your existing 4-way trailer connector and provide you with both 4 and 7-way trailer connection points. Contrary to the brake controller, you will need to run a few wires to complete the connection. The black power wire will need to be directly attached to the battery with a 40 amp circuit breaker like part # 9510 placed 6" from the positive terminal. You can see this in the attached install video on a similar vehicle.

The above two items will provide you with everything you need to tow a trailer with brakes. The only other item I recommend is a bracket to secure the 7-way on the hitch with part # 18140. This is of course assuming you do not have a mounting bracket for a trailer connector already installed on your trailer hitch.
