Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller Installation
Question:
Hi, On my 2017 Toyota Hilux Foretuner, when the controller, Prodigy Voyager is connected to the trailer via the blue wire, the light will only come on if the earth white wire is disconnected from the brake controller. If the white wire is connected, it will lock up the trailer brakes, even if the foot is not applied to the brake and not moving. It appears as though the controller is not requiring an earth link for some reason, and will only operate without this. I havent yet driven to to see if the brakes actually function, but I would assume they would as the green light is on. Any ideas? Thanks

Your Tekonsha Voyager brake controller # 39510 is not connected correctly. You will absolutely need the white ground wire connected, but you have the other wires somehow reworked. You need to connect the black wire to the 12V power of your battery. Then you need to connect the blue wire to your wire that goes to the 5 o'clock position on your 7-way (this is the only output). Then the red wire will connect to the cold side of your brake switch. It sounds like the red wire may be the issue and that it most likely is connected to the hot side of the brake switch so constantly hot.
Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test, as that red wire should be cold (no signal) when the brake pedal is not pressed, and hot (having signal) when the brake pedal is pressed.
I've attached an article and video to assist.
