Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2015 Lance 2185

Question:

I have a 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser and a new to me 2015 Lance 2185 trailer. Im interested in the Blue Ox hitch, but I have a few questions. 1. The dry tongue weight of the Lance is supposedly 500#. Im considering the Blue Ox with 750# max rating. Do you feel this is correct or should I consider the 1000# rated model? I suspect once loaded with gear the tongue weight will easily exceed 650#, as my previous 2005 Forest River Surveyor 235RS had a reported dry TW of 360# but the CAT scale said we were closer to 650#. 2. Can you advise me on whether I need the kit with the 7 hole or the 11 hole shank? My 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser has 34inch tires vs the 31inch stock and a 1-2inch lift. With the old Surveyor trailer, I had to purchase the CURT 17123 Weight Distribution Shank, which has 10 holes, and run my Pro Series WD hitch at the lowest level. However the Surveyor sat very low - the bottom of the frame was 12.5inch from the ground - and the Lance is a bit taller so Im not sure if the 2inch on the 7 hole shank will be sufficient, and conversely I dont want too tall shank if I can avoid it because Im afraid a taller shank will hit the ground. 3. Can I reuse my existing Curt 17123 WD shank if the 7 hold Blue Ox shank does not set the hitch head low enough? Alternately, could I have a machine shop cut the bottom of the 11 hole shank below the reinforcement to turn it into a 9 hole shank? Thanks. Unfortunately the trailer is a few hours away, and Ive sold my old hitch with my old trailer, so its not easy for me to take measurements or try various setups

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If your dry tongue weight is 500 lbs I'd imagine you'd be better off with the # BXW1000 as I imagine your tongue weight will pretty easily exceed 750.

The good news is your Curt shank part # C17123 is compatible with this system so if you need additional drop that shank will work well. If needed you could remove part of the bottom of it too.
