Wiring Upgrade Recommendation for Trailer to Power Trailer Electric Brakes
Question:
want to switch trailer from hydraulic drums push piston in hitch to electric drums, do they work on regular 4 prong wiring harness

Expert Reply:
You'd have to convert the trailer's wiring from a 4-way to a 7-way to use electric trailer brakes. The 4-ways only carry the lighting functions whereas the 7-way is the most popular style to carry the brake output circuit.
We have the 7-Way Upgrade kit part # HS381-9000 which is setup for upgrading a trailer with a 4-way to a 7-way and comes with everything needed. I attached an install video for this kit plus a help article on adding electric brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well.
