Parts Need to Flat Tow a 1989 Nissan Pickup Truck

Question:

Is it a bolt on? Is there any machining required? Is there any special requirements needed? Which tow bar do I need? Will this work pulling over a washboard road slowly? Thanks

It is possible that there could be some drilling involved when installing Roadmaster Base Plates, # 305-1, if a hole for the included hardware is not present. Otherwise, if that hole is present, it is bolt on application. There should not be any machining that needs to be done or special requirements. As long as you take your time on the bumpy washboard road, there should not be any problems.

For a compatible tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Tracker, # RM-020. You will also need safety cables, a lighting solution, and supplemental braking. For safety cables, I recommend Roadmaster Coiled Cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps to prevent the cables from touching the ground.

For lighting, if you do not plan on towing the vehicle often, you can use a magnetic light kit, # RM-2120. If you do plan on towing it often, I recommend installing diodes using Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation of this kit for you.

Most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to use and set up is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This system applies the vehicles brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest type of braking method and it saves wear and tear on both vehicles.
