5th Wheel and Rail Recommend for 2010 Toyota Tundra 2018 Grand Design 230RL w Lippert Turning Point
Question:
I have a 2010 Tundra DC 6.5foot bed and just purchased a 2018 Grand Design 230RL with a Lippert Turning Point pin box. This is my first 5th wheel so Im scouring the internet in search of the best hitch set up for me. Im going to be at or slightly higher than my payload capacity so Im looking for something light without sacrificing ride quality. My lightest solution would be a Reese Goose Box but I dont know if I would get enough turning radius on the standard bed and Im not convinced that the geometry is conducive to camper frame longevity. Second would be BandW 1257 with Andersen 3220 and pin box locked out or Reese 50084-58 with Andersen 3200. Also looking at Pullrite Superlite 2400, 2600. My concern with the Andersen or Pullrite is how far rearward of the axle the pin is and how that will affect ride quality. Thirdly I am looking at the Demco Recon 21K 8550045 or 8550043. These would allow me to utilize the Turning Point feature but Im concerned about ride quality vs the tighter tolerances of the Andersen/Pullrite. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks, Brent.

The Lippert Turning Point pin box is basically a pivoting pin box similar to the Sidewinder and Reese Revolution pin boxes. Since you have one of these you can use a stationary fifth wheel hitch in the bed of your 2010 Toyota Tundra and would not need to use a slider hitch since the additional clearance you need will come from the Lippert Turning Point pin box.
Since you have this pin box your hitch options become somewhat limited. You can't use a fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter like the Andersen or a Pullrite Superglide as it's a slider hitch already.
You could use the Demco Recon # DM8550043 that you mentioned though. Then for a fifth wheel rail kit you'll want a custom install kit as it will minimize drilling over a universal kit. For that the Reese kit part # RP50084-58 will work well as it fits your 2010 Toyota Tundra and the Recon.
