Using GearDeck 17 Slideout Hitch Cargo Carrier Y62VR on 2011 GMC Acadia

Question:

With a 2011 GMC Acadia will I need to be concerned about exhaust heat melting the wiring or box?

Exhaust heat can be a concern when using any rear-mounted cargo carrier such as the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Slide Out - 17 cu ft - 300 lbs - Black # H00604 but it is simple enough to measure to make sure you will not have issues.

The GearDeck 17 has a 14" distance from the hitch pin hole to the carrier then the actual cargo container itself sits 6 inches above the brackets and the hitch receiver opening. This is usually enough to fully clear the direct blast of heat from a vehicle's exhaust.

The exhaust on a 2011 Acadia sits about even with the receiver opening so this means the carrier's brackets could suspend the cargo carrier pod above the path of the exhaust.

Use these measurements on your Acadia and see what you think.
