Voyager Trailer Brake Controller 39510 Wiring Installation in 2002 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I have the Tekonsha Voyager break unit already installed since 2004 but I can only use it manually by using the slide switch on the box. In order to make the trailer breaks come on when I compress the foot break is tap into the factory break light switch? Everything is installed from the battery to the rear of the truck. All I need to do in the rear is wire the blue wire into the new trailer plug connector

Yes, on trailer brake controller installation the red input-signal wire will connect to the COLD side of the brake light switch; this is the pole that goes hot only when you press the pedal and at no other time. The other three wires on a brake controller are 12V operating power (black wire) that connects to the battery + terminal through a 40-amp breaker like # PK54540; the ground (white wire) that connects to the battery negative terminal; and the blue output wire that gets routed to your 7-way where it will connect to the pin at the 5-o-clock position.
If you find that your Voyager brake controller # 39510 does not trigger output when you press the brake either the unit is damaged internally or you may have the red wire connected to the wrong circuit.
