Recommended Equipment Needed for Towing with a 2017 Honda Pilot

Both the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13146 that you are interested in and the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e98840 are identical in weight capacities and installation as well so either one will do a great job. Since you are interested in the Curt option I recommend going ahead with that trailer hitch. You will need to note that neither of these options will fit your 2017 Honda Pilot if you have the full size spare tire. You need the mini spare for proper installation. This will work great with the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 which is rated for up to 500 lbs. You need to check the weight capacities of your Pilot to ensure that you do not overload your vehicle. For towing your trailer you will need wiring for the trailer lights as well as a ball mount and hitch ball. If you only need the basic trailer lighting functions then you need the Curt # C56291. For a fully functioning 7-Way you instead need the Tekonsha T-One # 118286. One of the most popular ball mount kits that we have is the Curt Class III Ball Mount # C45036. This will work great with the 24x59 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151 which is rated for up to 500 lbs. You need to check the weight capacities of your Pilot to ensure that you do not overload your vehicle.

For towing your trailer you will need wiring for the trailer lights as well as a ball mount and hitch ball.

If you only need the basic trailer lighting functions then you need the Curt # C56291. For a fully functioning 7-Way you instead need the Tekonsha T-One # 118286.

Thank you for the picture! Unfortunately I cannot really tell the size of your tire, but I can say that both trailer hitch options will fit with an 18" or smaller spare tire. If your tire is bigger then neither will fit. If you are handy with tools then both trailer hitches will be pretty easy for you to install on your own as the manufacturers have rated the installs a 3 out of 10 as far as difficulty goes. To install the trailer hitches you will need a ratchet, a 22mm socket, a socket extension (6" for the Curt and 3" for the Draw-Tite), a torque Wrench like part # PTW3001C or # ALL944001, and safety glasses. The Curt instructions calls for a wire pipe brush and the Draw-Tite instructions call for a flat-head screwdriver. The installation instructions are attached as well as installation videos for you to reference for the installation.
