Recommended Equipment Needed for Towing with a 2017 Honda Pilot
Question:
Both the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13146 that you are interested in and the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e98840 are identical in weight capacities and installation as well so either one will do a great job. Since you are interested in the Curt option I recommend going ahead with that trailer hitch. You will need to note that neither of these options will fit your 2017 Honda Pilot if you have the full size spare tire. You need the mini spare for proper installation. This will work great with the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 which is rated for up to 500 lbs. You need to check the weight capacities of your Pilot to ensure that you do not overload your vehicle. For towing your trailer you will need wiring for the trailer lights as well as a ball mount and hitch ball. If you only need the basic trailer lighting functions then you need the Curt # C56291. For a fully functioning 7-Way you instead need the Tekonsha T-One # 118286. One of the most popular ball mount kits that we have is the Curt Class III Ball Mount # C45036. It comes with a 2" hitch ball and has a 2" drop in the shank. I have attached a helpful article that goes over how to choose the correct ball mount for you to reference. I have also attached an installation video for the trailer hitch and both wiring options.
