Comparing Fastway E2 Trunnion and Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitches

Question:

What is the difference in height clearance between the trunnion bar and round bar systems for Fastway E2 hitches? I am specifically considering the 600 lb capacity versions and I read in another expert answer that the trunnion version was recommended for better ground clearance. That version is the more expensive of the two however, so I would prefer the round bar if it offers enough clearance. I will be installing on a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. My trailer’s tongue height is about 19”. The lowest point on the hitch of T and C is 9.5”, so the Fastway will be set to raise the ball up to the level of the trailer tongue. Will I gain much clearance with the trunnion bar version and if so, how much?

The ground clearance difference between Fastway round bar and trunnion bar weight distribution systems is about an inch at the head so it isn't much at all. And since you need to have it set up in the rise position you could go either way and have decent ground clearance.

If it were me though I would still go with the trunnion system, # FA92-00-0600, for 2 reasons. First inserting the trunnion bars into the head is easier compared to round bar systems (though neither one is all that hard to do). And second, you never know what you might tow in the future and you might need that slight extra ground clearance over the round bar system, # FA94-00-0600.

For either system you will also need a properly sized ball. For a 2 inch ball you can use # A-90. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286.
