Availability of Rear Suspension Enhancement for a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport base model. I would like to enhance the rear suspension so I can tow a trailer with my UTV loaded on it. What do you recommend?

I do have a possible solution for you, but unfortunately there are no rear suspension enhancement options for your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. I spoke with my contact at Firestone (who have been the only ones with a fit for previous years) and he said that they do not have a fit for a 2017.

Instead what I recommend doing is using a Weight Distribution (WD) system. I check the online version of the owner's manual for your Santa Fe and I didnt see anything that prohibits the use of one, so as long as you have a 2" hitch receiver that is what I recommend going with. Be sure to check your copy of your owner's manual to verify the use of a WD system and any other trailer towing requirements.

A WD system will evenly distribute the Tongue Weight (TW) of your trailer along the axles of your trailer and Santa Fe so that your towing setup is level. You will want to choose a WD system with a TW range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

I recommend looking into the Reese Strait-Line systems as they have anti-sway cam arms that actually work to prevent sway before it starts. The part # RP66083 has a TW range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs which should be about what you need but you will want to load everything up just to make sure.

The only other thing that you need is a hitch ball like the 2" part # A-90 or the 2-5/16" part # 19286.

I have attached a review video of this system as well as some helpful articles for you to check out.
