Fishing Rod Carrier for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I am looking for a rooftop cargo box to carry multiple fishing rods in. It wouldnt need to be large, but would need to be long. My rods are just over 7ft. Most boxes I see are listed with inside lengths shorter than that ....... I talked with a seemingly clueless Thule rep that recommended the Alpine series box and kept insisting it was 74inch .......... I have no idea where he got that measurement as nothing I see listed shows that to be true. Do you have a recommendation?

Carrying fishing poles in a roof box is almost identical to carrying skis, in that you're looking at the internal measurements of the box.

The Thule Pulse Alpine, pat # TH613, measures 84-1/2 inches long internally so it would be ideal for you. It also includes locks which is great because security is one of the main advantages you get from going with a box.

Another option if you're open to an uncovered option is a ski carrier. These can carry about two rods, depending on reel size, for each pair of skis they're rated for. The biggest advantage of these is that there wouldn't be a length restriction on what poles you can put into the carriers, and they can be quickly and easily removed after use.

I recommend Rhino Rack's 6 Ski kit, part # RR576. This can hold 6 to 10 poles, and includes integrated locks for the rods. This rack can also be installed into the C-channels of your crossbars if they have them, and includes the kit to do that.

I've included videos of a few of these parts so you can get a better idea of how they perform and
