Recommended Wiring to Utilize Blue Ox Patriot in a 2018 GMC Canyon 4x4

Question:

This vehicle requires that the battery be disconnected after setting up the transmission for flat towing. How would you get power to the BLU37TR unit and how would you deal with brake lights, turn signals and running lights? I presume a separate light system is required that connects to the RV- would you also pull power from the RV to power this unit?

To use the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System # BLU37TR on your 2018 GMC Canyon, you will simply use the 12V outlet kit # RM-9332 that wires directly to your battery. This will supply power even when disconnected.

For an easy disconnect, I recommend the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766. This makes disconnecting your battery for flat towing as easy as flipping a switch. For vehicles that require battery disconnection, a charge line kit like # RM-156-25 is a good idea that won't require stopping every few hours to run your vehicle to charge the battery back up.

For your vehicle lights, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will allow your motorhome to power the signals in your vehicle without compromising the factory electronics. it will give you a clean look that only requires connection to the front of your vehicle.

Let me know if you have any other questions about your vehicle.
