Curt WD Shanks for Using the WD System # C17501 on a Truck with 7

Question:

Hi I am looking at the curt #17501 system. My truck is lifted about 7, I am thinking im going to need a different shank. Can you tell me if the one that comes with the system will work or if I will need a different one, and which one you recommend? The other thing I was wondering was if curt made that system without the shankif i need a different one. Thank you for your time.

We do have a selection of Curt Weight Distribution (WD) shanks that I have attached for you to filter through. Since the height of a WD varies by truck and trailer you will also want to use the attached article to help you choose the correct one for your application. All of the Curt systems come with a shank, but I can help you find a different system without a shank if that is what you are wanting.

Among the Curt WD shanks we have the Curt Welded Shank # C17123 which offers an 8-1/4" drop when used with a Trunnion system like the part # C17501 that you are looking at.

For a shank that offers a much larger drop we have part # C17125 which has a 15-3/4" drop with a Trunnion system.

Also, you will want to choose a WD system with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

The Curt # C17501 WD that you referenced has a TW range of 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs.

If you need a WD system with a different TW range just let me know and I can help you find the correct one for your application.
