Trailer Brake and Turn Lights are Always on When connected to 7-Way of 2011 Jeep Liberty
Question:
I have a 2011 Jeep Liberty with a 7 pin trailer plug. Went to hook up to a nex 6x12 trailer using a 7 to 4 pin converter and noticed that the trailer brake lights and turn signals were on as soon as I plugged in before I started the Jeep. Trailer running lights come on with the Jeep lights. But neither turn signal, hazards or brake lights work appears theyre already lit. Bought a new 7 to 4 pin converter - no dice. Wires to the plug on the Jeep appear undamaged and still intact in the flexible wrap. What should I try next?

The next thing to do is to check both the 7-Way on your 2011 Jeep Liberty and the 4-Way on your trailer. Make sure the inside on each is clean and free of corrosion and debris.
If that looks good then you will want to test them. You can use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2992, to test the pins on your 7-Way to make sure they are working properly, and a 12V power source, like the battery in your Jeep, to test the 4-Way pins on your trailer. For your trailer you will ground the negative terminal of the battery and then use the positive terminal to see what happens to your lights with each pin.
Either way it sounds like you have a ground problem. After determining which end of your towing setup the problem is on, you will want to check your grounds to make sure they are secure and connected to a clean, bare-metal surface. If they are then you will want to check your wiring for any places where it is corroded, bent, exposed, or damaged and replace accordingly.
If you do all of that and you are still having issues, just let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.
