Best Fifth Wheel Hitch to Fit Ford Factory Rail Kit and has Hitch Height of at Least 18 inches

Question:

Hello, I just bought a new toy hauler and need to upgrade to a heavier hitch. I am interested in the Curt products as they are getting many great reviews. My question is when the specifications for height adjustment say 13-17 inches, what two points are those measurements taken from? Further, if 17 inches is to the top of the strike plate I may need another inch or two. If this is the case what Curt/Reese product do you recommend? I do like the prices of a Curt a lot better and seems to be as good if not better than a Reese. Or am I wrong? I have a 2010 Ford F-450 with a puck system that fits the newer stock Ford puck system. Thank you in advance.

The height range you mentioned will be the distance from the rails the hitch is installed in to the top of the hitch head.

Sinch you need between 18 and 19 inches, the Curt hitch part # C16545-16017 would be about 1 inch short.

The better option for hitch height range and in overall quality is the Reese M5 hitch part # RP30921 for an 20k hitch or part # RP30922 for a 27,000lb capacity.

That said, if you can get by with a 20k capacity the B and W Companion part # BWRVK3300 would be the winner. The height range of this is up to 18-3/4 inches and since the Companion hitches are considered by many to be the best available. And the cost is better than the Reese.

If I were to rank the quality of the hitches it would go B and W, Reese, and then Curt. Curt's aren't terrible but if we are going to see an issue with jaws or with loose fitting king pins it's mainly the Curt hitches. They redesigned the hitches as the A Series of hitches recently that were supposed to address that but it's still too recent to know if they are a better quality.
