Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2005 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
I am looking to buy a trailer hitch receiver for my 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I notice that there are two different mounting options. Some mount only to the bottom of the frame, and other have one bolt to the bottom and one to the side of the frame. Is there any benefit of one over the other? Thank you

There is no benefit to the mounting differences of the trailer hitch receivers for the 2005 Jeep Wrangler. There is no strength advantage or ease of mounting advantage, so it simply comes down to preference. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13408 due to its capacity and design as well as the fact it is made in the USA.
For your tow wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118409. This is a very simple installation behind the tail lights of your Wrangler. I recommend using mounting brackets # 18144 and # 18140 to secure your wiring.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10035B. This will give you a 2 inch and 1-7/8 inch hitch ball as well as give you adjustability to tow a trailer level by offering the 1 inch height adjustments between a 3 inch drop and 3-1/2 inch rise. This ball mount also offers the ability to hide the ball on the backside when not in use to give you a clean look and save your shins when loading cargo into your trunk. I recommend using a hitch lock like # BX8858 to protect your investment.
