What Parts are Needed to Install a Draw-Tite Trailer Brake Controller on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Hi, i have Activator and now i need to install it on Toyota Tacoma 2007 with factory harness factory harness has red fat wire black-red fat wire and 3 smaller wires green, green-white and brown. Activator has only 4 wires same size - how can I connect it? thx

If your 2007 Toyota Tacoma came with a factory 7-Way trailer connector at the back, you can use the Tekonsha Wire Replacement, part # 3040-P, to install the Draw-Tite brake controller # 5504. On Tacoma trucks equipped with a 7-Way, there will be a harness that mates with this wiring harness which may be the one you are referring to. The harness will be located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. There will be a 5-pin connector that mates with the one on the adapter. The other end of the # 3040-P harness will plug into the brake controller. The remaining white wire on the wiring harness will need to be grounded.

If the truck has a 4-Way trailer connector, you will need a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides all of the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller and 7-Way trailer connector.

If the truck does not have any trailer connector, you will first need to install one using the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118496. I have included a link to a installation video of this harness on a Toyota Tacoma for you to view. After installation, you would then need to install the ETBC7 kit.

If you need to hardwire the brake controller to the wiring harness, you will need to do so by function. On the wires you have found, use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the wires. There should be one for 12-volt power, one that gives a signal only when you step on the brakes, one will be output to the 7-Way to the trailer brakes, and another will be ground. The 5th wire is most likely an illumination circuit that will not be needed. It may come on when you turn the vehicle headlights on.
