Recommended Weight Distribution System for Towing 2 Farmall Cub Tractors with a 2014 Ford Expedition
Question:
I have an 18 foot trailer, tandem axle 3500# each, 2 inch hitch, brakes on 1 axle, which weighs about 2000#. I want to haul 2 Farmall Cub tractors, total tractor weight about 5500# max. The Expedition requires a load levelling system for weights greater than 6000. What economical, but safe, system do you recommend?

To determine the correct Weight Distribution (WD) system to choose you will need to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.
I recommend looking for a WD system that has integrated sway control. There are some options that sit at a lower price point but use an anti-sway bar which does not allow you to backup without first removing the bar.
A great economical option that has received great reviews is the Fastway e2 Weight # FA94-00-1000. This system has the integrated sway control and has a TW range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs. This should be about the TW range you are looking for, but you will want to do your math just to make sure.
This system comes with a shank but does require that a hitch ball, like 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # 63840, be purchased separately. Due to limited clearance a thin walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 is recommended for installing the hitch ball.
I have attached some additional links that you can reference as well.
