Using 2 Inch Bike Rack on Class I Trailer Hitch for 2016 Kia Soul
Question:
I plan to use this hitch for a bike rack. No towing. My 2UP aluminum bike racks total weight is 120lbs, with my two bikes loaded. Can I use a 1.25inch to 2inch adapter with this hitch? Bike rack is for a 2inch hitch.

The Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11419 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2016 Kia Soul, as long as it is not the EV model. This will provide you with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and it has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. Please note that Curt does require that stabilizing straps like # 18050 be used for non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers. I have included a video demonstration on this product so you can see exactly how it works.
You can indeed use a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD to expand the receiver to a 2 inch opening, however there is an important factor to keep in mind when doing this. Using this, or any similar hitch adapter, is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity on the hitch by 50 percent. This means that the 200 pound tongue weight capacity on the Curt hitch will be reduced to 100 pounds when using an adapter. Since your bike rack and bikes weigh in at around 120 pounds, this will not be your best option.
I highly recommend going with a bike rack that is compatible with Class I trailer hitches so you can load up and transport your bikes without issue.
I recommend taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200Z. This is a really nice, but cost-efficient platform style rack that can secure 2 bikes of up to 45 pounds each. It features precision-clamping, cushioned hooks that will slide along the upright mast for quick and easy loading. The adjustable wheel mounts can accept a variety of wheel sizes and wheelbases and the tilting mast will allow for easier rear cargo access. I just recommend adding the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable Lock # HRLHPTC to secure everything into place and help to deter theft.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this bike rack so you can get a closer look at all of its features. I have also attached a link that will take you to our available selection of Class I compatible bike racks that you can look through.
