Does my Tow Bar Wiring Harness Require the use of Hy-Power Diodes

Question:

Recently purchased an 87 Suzuki Samari that had been used as a toad. Have not had the opportunity to fully investigate the wiring, due to the cold weather, arrangement but do know it has at least 2 flat wiring cables in front. One is at the bumper and the other is coiled inside the engine compartment with each appearing to have 3 wires plus a ground. In the rear there is an additional cable which is believed to have been wired from a trailer light converter and used to tow a trailer or such as is not related to the other cables apparently used to tow the Zuk. I have read much of your information and the part that is confusing to me is the use of diodes. Can you explain their purpose and how they act and if are required in this instance. Thanks for any assistance.

Wherever you use the RV to signal the vehicle's factory lights, diodes will be needed to stop the backflow of electricity. If you are using a set of external lights like part # TL21RK then the diodes will not be needed but since you have the wiring harness attached to your factory lights then you will want to use a set of diodes like part # RM-794.

I have attached a diode installation help article for you to take a look at as well.
